Kaltura Capture App Update

Kaltura released the latest version of the recording software – Version 4.2.141

This version fixes some bugs, such as audio and video being out of sync and software crashing after a Capture update.

To update to the latest version, open the Kaltura Capture app and wait for it to auto-update. This may take a while.

After the update, quit the app and open Kaltura Capture from eLearning@UNG D2L (My Media > Add Media > Kaltura Capture).

Oh ****! The Profanity Filter is Off

D2L’s profanity filter will no longer substitute words with asterisks. Any older closed-captioning files that have ***** instead of a words can be easily corrected using the captions editing feature.

Brightspace by D2L

New Editor Interface

eLearning@UNG (D2L) has updated the Editor in the new Assignment Experience (for both creating and evaluating assignments). The new editor does not replace the existing HTML Editor at this time.

The new Brightspace Editor includes the following improvements to existing features:  

  • Refreshed formatting options 
  • Refreshed color picker 
  • Refreshed font size menu 
  • Comprehensive and standard emoticon menu 
  • Comprehensive and refreshed Symbols menu 
  • Advanced source code editor 
  • Refreshed Tables feature, including data sorting 
  • Refreshed Accessibility Checker 
  • The Check Accessibility, HTML Source Editor, Preview, and Toggle Full Screen functionalities have now been placed in the top bar.
  • Word count functionality includes words, characters, and text selection.
  • Context menus while editing enables quick access to text, link, and image editing options, including advanced image editing options. Note: image editing is not available in all context menus yet.
  • New overflow menu with additional, less frequently used menu options

What is NOT included in the new Editor:

  • Spell check functionality has been removed. D2L recommends using your browser spell check.

MICROSOFT

Microsoft to Replace Calibri Font

Calibri has been the default font for Microsoft Office products since 2007. The ubiquitous font face is being replaced by one of five new fonts: Tenorite, Bierstadt, Skeena, Seaford, and Grandview.

All five of the fonts are now available in the online version of Office 365, but only one will become Microsoft’s new default font.

Excel Smart Templates Powered by Wolfram

Microsoft has created a series of templates for Excel using the data resources from Wolfram. Think of Wolfram as an encyclopedia for Excel.

Templates include Nutrition Tracker, Movie Tracker, Planets and Comets, Stars and Constellations, and the Periodic Table. These templates work with Excel in Microsoft 365. Log in to Microsoft 365 with your UNG login credentials.
