Topic: An Undergraduate Path from Questions to Conferences: Exploration of High-Impact Practice (HIP) Undergraduate Research in the Classroom and Beyond
Speaker: Ralph Hale
Scholarship is a defining pillar of academia, aiming to gain knowledge and understanding that can be shared with scientific peers, students, and the general public. In this program we will discuss how undergraduate students can get involved in research, a High-Impact Practice (HIP) recognized by the AAC&U. In the classroom, students can turn research questions into empirical designs capable of collecting data to test hypotheses. They then can analyze and interpret results within the context of the larger field and literature. Dissemination of findings can occur inside the classroom and beyond through oral presentation, research posters, conferences, manuscript drafting, and publication. Successful implementation across a range of student expertise levels will be discussed.

Engaging Pedagogy Exchange (EPX) — formally known as Research-Based Teaching Series (RBTS) — seeks to support the work of faculty from all disciplines, colleges, and campuses by offering faculty presentations and workshops on best practices in teaching and learning. These workshops not only provide information and resources for faculty seeking to enhance their own pedagogical practices, but also give faculty an opportunity to present their work to peers. All sessions will be live on Zoom and video-recorded for archival purposes.
