Topic: Written Reflections 2.0: Designing Assignments to Integrate Learning
Speaker: Miriam Moore
Reflection assignments raise a number of questions: what’s the difference between a play-by-play recount and a reflection? What does deep or critical reflection look like? How do we design and respond to reflection assignments to help students integrate knowledge, theory, and/or practice? Can we teach students to write reflections in ways that support learning more effectively? If so, how? This workshop explores these questions and offers suggestions for designing, introducing, and responding to written reflections. In addition to an overview of current research on reflective practice, participants will receive links to sample assignments, rubrics, and teaching handouts.

Engaging Pedagogy Exchange (EPX) — formally known as Research-Based Teaching Series (RBTS) — seeks to support the work of faculty from all disciplines, colleges, and campuses by offering faculty presentations and workshops on best practices in teaching and learning. These workshops not only provide information and resources for faculty seeking to enhance their own pedagogical practices, but also give faculty an opportunity to present their work to peers. All sessions will be live on Zoom and video-recorded for archival purposes.
