At UNG Gainesville, political science instructors will moderate three Great Decisions discussion series on select Wednesdays at Noon in Nesbitt 2201 (across from the Starbuck’s)

This year we have a dynamic lineup on the Gainesville campus:

September 25. “Russia’s Foreign Policy”, presented by Dr. Dwight Wilson, Assistant Professor, Department of International Affairs and Political Science

From cyber warfare to exercises aimed at NATO, Russia is aggressively determined to retain its superpower status. As the Putin regime grows more emboldened at home, it has also embarked on a foreign policy in collision often with U.S. interests. How should the U.S. address the Russian threat? Share your views on this growing rivalry!

October 23. “China: The New Silk Road”, presented by Dr. Bibek Chand, Assistant Professor, Department of International Affairs and Political Science

With security and trade relations between the U.S. and China at a critical juncture, what does the future hold for relations between these two superpowers? Can these economic and military powerhouses repair relations and cooperate on a host of issues (environment, assisting developing countries) or are both set on a path of confrontation? Share your views on this critical relationship!

November 20. “Turkey: A Partner in Crisis”, presented by Dr. Chris Kroh, Lecturer, Department of International Affairs and Political Science

As a long-term NATO member, Turkey has had a close relationship with the U.S. and the West as a whole. However, in the past few years, it has taken a step back from democracy and for this and other reasons relations between Turkey and the U.S. are at an all-time low. Given the stakes of the Middle East, should the U.S. encourage democracy in Turkey? Share your views!
