Three department faculty were recognized at the 2018 Faculty and Staff Convocation.

Dr. Cristian Harris received the Distinguished Teaching Award. The Distinguished Teaching Award, recognizes excellence in teaching by a faculty member who demonstrates a well-articulated teaching philosophy that has developed through methodical examination and improvement of teaching and learning. Dr. Harris teaches courses in International Affairs on the Dahlonega campus and serves as the coordinator for the MAIA program.

Dr. Nathan Price received Best Practices in Service Learning Award. Dr. Price is an Assistant Professor on the Blue Ridge campus. Dr. Christopher Kroh received award for Excellence in Online Teaching. Dr. Kroh teaches courses online and on the Gainesville campus.

Faculty members in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs participated in several activities to enrich the experiences of faculty members and students at UNG and across the state.

● Dr. Lance Bardsley (Oconee Campus) presented a paper titled “Hand Eye Coordination: A Critical Thinking-Based Pedagogy for Improving Student Writing Skills in a Political Science/Film Studies Learning Community” with Dan Cabaniss, associate professor of communication, at the University System of Georgia Teaching and Learning Conference in April.

● Dr. Nathan Price (Blue Ridge Campus) presented a paper titled “A First Year Cohort: An Overview and Lessons Learned” with Thomas Cooper, Alison Hite, and Robert Scott  at the USG Teaching and Learning Conference in April.

● Dr. Price and five other faculty and staff members at the Blue Ridge Campus received a Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP) grant from the Association of American Colleges and Universities for a “Blue Ridge Scholars Literacy Project.” The initiative involves an assortment of service-learning projects, one of which will deploy UNG students as teaching assistants in literature in Fannin County public schools. Dr. Price will work with Alison Hite, Andrew Pearl, Phillip Mitchell, Robert Scott, and Paula Mullins to implement the project on the Blue Ridge Campus.
