In October 2019 members of the Political Science and International Affairs Department were honored by the UNG Boar’s Head Brigade with the Army Commanders Award for Public Service.

Those recognized included:

  • Hamid Serri
  • Larry Morton

Each award was embellished with this citation:

In appreciation for your dedicated support for the Army ROTC Cadet commissioning program at the University of North Georgia – The Military College of Georgia. The Boar’s Head Brigade and the United States Army continues to benefit significantly from your interest in strengthening the Cadet program to make it among the best in the nation. Our mission is to produce highly educated leaders of character who are fully prepared for success as second lieutenants in the United States Army. Your outstanding effort has greatly contributed to success of our mission.

The Army Commanders Award for Public Service Medal is the fourth highest public service decoration that can be presented to a civilian by the United States Army. The award is presented to those who have distinguished service or achievements contributing to the mission of the Army.

It is a great honor for the Political Science & International Affairs Department to be honored in such a way.
