DETI Does This

Online Student Success

Online Student Success Advisors help all UNG students with online courses – UNG Online, eCore, and eMajor – from start to finish. They also help faculty and staff with any online student concerns such as students who have gone MIA in their classes or need additional help managing the online classroom.

Merci Rivera and Deanna Simonds, while located on the Dahlonega campus, serve the UNG Online Dahlonega, Blue Ridge and Cumming campuses. Steven Bagley, located on the Gainesville campus, serves the UNG Online, Gainesville, and Oconee campuses.

Fun fact: Merci is bilingual in Spanish!

Feel free to contact her if you ever need assistance or have any questions!

For Instructors: Instructors can recommend online tutoring to any UNG student (online and face-to-face) needing help. It provides online tutoring in more than 150 subject areas.

Instructors can require students to submit a draft of a written project. Smarthinking’s essay alert feature will flag issues such as plagiarism, grammar, and inappropriate comments.

For Students: (myUNG login required) The online tutoring service is available 24/7 and is free to all UNG students. Students access Smarthinking using the “Free Online Tutoring” link in their UNG Online course.

Students are provided 10 hours of tutoring. Additional time is available by contacting DETI.

Academic Alert

Note: DETI Early Alert Report has merged with UNG Academic Alert.

Look for the Academic Alert link on the Student Success Alert widget in eLearning@UNG (D2L). The form is used to report students who you think could benefit from Student Success coaching.

If you have a struggling student (missing assignments, not participating in classes, or has a failing grade), complete the Academic Alert form.

Proctored Exams

All undergraduate online courses at UNG are required to have at least one proctored activity during the semester (worth a minimum of 10% of the course grade) to verify the identity of students enrolled in the course.

ProctorU (myUNG login required) is an online proctoring service that uses a 3-step process to replicate the face-to-face proctoring experience. Students log in to a ProctorU exam (set up by an instructor) using a computer or laptop, a webcam, and microphone. ProctorU does not support smartphones or tablets.

Proctors can see and hear the test takers, monitor what they are doing, and verify their identities using a multi-factor process.

Students are charged a fee for using this proctoring service.

OSS can assist instructors with the setup of ProctorU exams. They also help online students with any issues they may encounter with the proctoring service.
