Regardless of how you create your multimedia, recording good quality audio is always a challenge. Follow these tips to improve your chances of getting good audio and more accurate closed captioning.
Use a Mic
A good-quality microphone will improve audio quality. Plug in a USB microphone or use a headset with attached microphone. The computer’s built-in microphone, or video conference microphone, is designed to record all sounds in the room. A more directional microphone is better.
Quiet Please
Background noise, such as vehicle traffic, rain, voices down the hallway, or even a computer fan can ruin good audio. Record in a quiet location during a quiet part of the day. If background noise can be heard on your recording, re-record the audio.
Loud and Clear
Avoid speaking too softly or too quickly. Kaltura needs to “hear” each word to accurately convert audio into text for closed captioning.
