It is with great pleasure that we share the news that the Dahlonega and Gainsville Model UN Clubs (joint nomination) have won the Student Organization of the Year Award for 2023-24 as part of the Blue & Gold Awards!

Avery Johnson, a senior international affairs major, the president of the Dahlonega Model UN club and when asked winning this award he said “Winning this award means a lot to me and the rest of the club as well. Our members put in hard work to prepare for conferences, and to see their efforts being recognized by the university is special.”

Since Avery is graduating in May, Jessica Case, a sophomore international affairs major, will be assuming the role as the president of the Dahlonega Model UN club. Jessica is excited for the future of the Model UN club and said that “winning the award was really exciting considering we’re still on the rebound from covid and compared to other student organizations, we’re on the smaller size so being able to still win the award was very uplifting for both clubs. As far as the club as a whole, it’s helped me really transition into my major and meet so many different people that have been absolutely amazing! Some of my friends that I have now I’ve met through the club or through the conferences that we’ve gone to so it’s nice to be a part of a club with like-minded people.”

The Model UN clubs is an extremely active organization on campus. They have attended and been successful at multiple Southern Regional Model United Nations Conferences both here in Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. The clubs have also hosted six very successful on-campus Model UN conferences for students of all majors on all our UNG campuses.
