That 15 miles included a 7-mile shuttle, so i only paddled 8. Lonnie Carden, owner and operator of Coosa Outdoor Center in Wetumpka, gave me a wonderful place to camp last night. It rained about a half inch , but I was set up under a shelter, so I didn’t even have a wet tent to deal with. The site included access to a bathroom and hot shower. Lonnie took me to dinner and would not allow me to pay, and then this morning, he shuttled me around Jordan Dam and the rapids below. Again, he would not allow me to pay. This is a very generous man.
I intend to return the third weekend of May for the Wetumpka Whitewater Festival, which Lonnie heads up. If you are at all interested in paddling, you should consider coming that weekend.
Once I got onto Jordan Lake, I paddled 8 miles up the river to the home of Tom and Patty Hinton—classy people.
