Unscheduled zero day

Posted by on December 3, 2012

I had no intention for this to be a zero day, but I hadn’t planned on meeting Nate and Laura Paulk. I really should begin at the beginning.

I locked through Claiborne Lock and Dam yesterday and paid for a campsite at Isaac Creek Campground. This is a lively facility, and the camp hosts, Mr. And Mrs. Ludlow, considered how I was traveling and gave me a site with a dock for my boat and adjacent to the bathroom and laundry — sweet! This morning, Mr. Luella told me about a young couple paddling north to south on the Coosa-Alabama-Mobile-Tensaw River system. It was very foggy this morning, so I went visiting instead of rushing off into the fog. Nate and Laura are incredibly nice, interesting people, and we ended up talking and comparing notes on the river for hours. By the time we were done, I couldn’t have packed up and left in time to paddle more than a couple of hours, so I stayed and happily so. Nate and Laura are folks I expect to stay in touch with.
