On September 20, the Political Science Student Association (PSSA) and the America Democracy Project (ADP) hosted a special “Crossfire” which was streamed to Facebook live. The topic was the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. The Department of Political Science and International Affairs graciously provided refreshments for the event.

According to PSSA president Meredith Shea, “the PSSA plans to feature more Crossfire discussions on Facebook live in the future. This can be a promising way to reach out to alumni who attended Crossfire events while students on campus.”

Every week during the fall and spring semesters, members of the UNG community including students and faculty and staff members meet to discuss pressing political issues during the weekly Crossfire debate on the Dahlonega campus. Sponsored by PSSA under the direction of faculty advisor Carl D. Cavalli, the Crossfire debates began in 1994 as a way to encourage civil political debates on hot-button issues. The Crossfires remained popular during the 2016-2017 academic year, covering topics like the Middle East, taxes, Georgia politics, and the United States’ place in the world.

The lineup for the current semester is available on the PSSA’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/UNGPSSA/
