The UNG Press will present a live panel discussion called “Open and Able: Using Open Pedagogy to Adopt OER” at the virtual Open Education Conference on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. Panel members include Dr. BJ Robinson, Director of the UNG Press; Corey Parson, Managing Editor; and Ariana Adams, Editor.
The Open Education Conference (“OpenEd”) is an “annual convening for sharing and learning about open educational resources, open pedagogy, and open education…that strive to realize education ecosystems that are accessible, equitable and inclusive to everyone, regardless of their background,” according to the event’s website. The conference will be held virtually from October 18–22 and will feature more than 200 live and pre-recorded panels and presentations. The full schedule can be found here.
As the leading distributor for open educational resources (OER) in Georgia, the UNG Press is dedicated to accurate, quality textbooks and tools that are freely available to use and share. OER textbooks provide equitable educational opportunities by saving students hundreds of dollars each semester. Listed in the public domain or under open licenses, OER allow teachers and students to collaborate, expand and change the provided material, and create projects that give back to their fields of study, unlike traditional textbooks.
After participating in the UNG Press session, “Open and Able: Using Open Pedagogy to Adopt OER,” attendees will be able to:
- Locate, access, and evaluate discipline-specific OER
- Identify needs in the effectiveness of discipline-specific OER for instructors’ course outcomes and learning goals
- Learn open pedagogical methods and resources
- Learn best practices for open pedagogy
- Learn to use open pedagogy so discipline-specific OER will meet instructors’ course outcomes and learning goals.
