Intern Spotlight: Autumn Futch

Hi guys! I’m Autumn Futch and I’m the new UNG Press intern for the spring semester. I’m definitely looking forward to many new adventures and learning experiences here at the Press! Before I start this semester-long journey, I thought you all deserved to know a little about me.

I’m a senior English major with a concentration in Writing and Publication here at UNG. I am also a writing tutor at UNG’s Writing Center! English has always been my passion. I always loved to read when I was younger, but in high school, grammar really became my true passion. This major has allowed me so many great chances to do what I love!

This is my second year at UNG, as I transferred here last year as a junior looking for bigger and better opportunities. It is safe to say that I have found them. I’m originally from a very small city, a little over two hours south of Dahlonega, called Molena, Georgia. Molena is so tiny we only have a caution light! Needless to say, I’m used to the small-town vibe that Dahlonega has, but I am always looking for more opportunities.

I’m incredibly dedicated to my schoolwork, so I’m usually doing homework, studying, or creating lists for future assignments. (I love to plan!) My education is one of the most important things to me; therefore, you can usually find me cracking open a book or writing a paper nearly every weekend. You will also probably find me drinking a large iced coffee because I have a problem and it helps me get through any long studying session.

Though I’m usually wrapped up in schoolwork, I still find time to do the things I love, which include reading, making my friends laugh, hanging out with dogs, and FaceTiming my sister and my little niece. My niece is just a few months shy of being a year old and I’m happy to say that she is a lot like me: She already loves books! Every time I video chat with my sister, my niece is banging on a book and trying out new words. Her favorite word right now is HEY! I might be biased, but she’s definitely the best baby. Getting to chat with her and the rest of my family is a sure-fire way of brightening my day!

While at the UNG Press, I am certain I will learn more than ever before. I am so excited to work with such fantastic and knowledgeable people from whom I can learn valuable information and experience. I cannot wait to grow as a person in the profession of my dreams!
