“One morning I woke up and the entire world was unable to lie.”

One morning I woke up and the entire world was unable to lie. It was chaos. The morning started at the company office. Fred hollered, “Who ate my bagel?!” Adam replied, “I did,” and then Fred tackled him to the ground. Sarah the intern reported to the CEO Michelle that she has been having an affair with her husband, and Amy was shooting staples at the other employees yelling, “I hate everyone!” I confessed to everyone that I’ve been cheating on my diet the entire time and that my dog just won’t stop wiping his butt on the carpet.

One morning I woke up and the entire world was unable to lie. As I stood in the grocery store trying to block out people’s voices and the buzz of an endless stream of words cascades by, all I could hear were their blunt, verbal assaults upon each other. “Wow, you sure have funny hair.” “What a strange piercing,” said one man who stared a teenager examining fruit, but I couldn’t tell if his mouth moved. It was at this point I realized not everyone clearly spoke their sentences, but maybe I could read minds.
