“The brook babbled at me as I waded upstream.”

The brook babbled at me as I waded upstream. My fishing rod dangled behind me, wagging taillike, when a plop broke the silence. My phone, still within its waterproof case, had snapped off my backpack and glided downstream away from me. Throwing all caution to the wind, I threw myself after it like an Olympic swimmer. Snapping branches and splashing water filled the little gorge as I frantically trudged after my only hope of contact with civilization when the water’s pace quickened, a waterfall was in sight.
