“They looked at each other, sparks in their eyes
and delight in their smiles.”

They looked at each other, sparks in their eyes and delight in their smiles. Neither noticed that they blocked the aisle, nor did they see the scowls of the less fortunate people who had to pass them by. They could only see each other, could only rejoice in the luck of a promised miracle.

The taller woman moved closer to the shorter. “I can’t believe I found you again.” She held a hand to her lover’s cheek, fearing she would disappear before her. But she was real, and she closed her eyes and nuzzled the hand pressed against her.

“But you did. You found me.” And they kissed right there for the entire grocery store to see.
