“Cold sweat clings to my neck and I jump up.”

Cold sweat clings to my neck and I jump up. I frantically gaze around my room, eyes straining in the darkness, and reassure myself that nothing is out of place. My hair sticks to my forehead and cheeks in sweaty clumps and I shake violently from chills. The dreams don’t feel like a creation of my mind anymore. The bogeys that chased me in my head make me ill. I remember the tall, spindly figure that caught me moments ago and I retch. I stumble out of bed and reach for the light, dismissing the shadows and all its creatures.
