To earn an MBA at North Georgia, all students must demonstrate that they understand and can apply all that they’ve learned in the program. The Capstone project demonstrates mastery of all those learning objectives, but its more than a simple report, or even a thesis.
What is the Capstone project?
The Capstone project offers students an opportunity to consult with a local business on a real problem, challenge or question. During the project, teams of students are paired with local businesses facing a special challenge or need to help them find the best solution or course of action.
Professors and executives serve as mentors to each team, but the students are responsible for meeting with their clients, designing the project, defining the scope of work, executing an agreement with the client and then completing the project.
How does Capstone start?
Many MBA students haven’t yet worked in a consultative capacity, so we conduct a seminar to kick off the project and help teams get off to a good start. Last Saturday, our students participated in a session with Bruce Longshore to learn how to define a project, stick to a scope of work, and plan effectively to complete the project.
Longshore currently serves as President and CEO for Chestatee River Group. In his work with the firm, he aids clients with strategy development, operations improvement, strategic infrastructure design, leadership development, and the change process that links human performance with strategy and operational plans. He also provides coaching and consultation to senior executives to improve the leadership team functioning.
If this sort of project sounds exciting to you, then an MBA may be just what you need to reach your career goals. Attend an Information Session at the University Center in Forsyth County or apply to North Georgia’s MBA program online.
