Amos Amerson, a North Georgia graduate, is retiring from Georgia House of Representatives this year. His service to the state may be coming to a close, but he’s leaving behind a fine example of service and leadership for all of the North Georgia community.
Amerson is a retired military officer and also a former faculty member at North Georgia. He was first elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 2000.
He served as chairman of the Science and Technology Committee and as a member of House Higher Education Committee. Amerson also supported the HOPE scholarship, which gives so many Georgia students an opportunity to earn a degree.
Amerson was also instrumental in securing support for educational programs at North Georgia and in creating scholarship funds.
According to North Georgia News, nearly 100 university representatives, community members, and legislative colleagues gathered at an event hosted to honor Amerson’s service in June.
