Marketing Student Receives AMA Atlanta Award

University of North Georgia senior marketing major Brigette Kinkade received the 2018 Ken Bernhardt American Marketing Association (AMA) Atlanta Outstanding Collegiate Marketer Award.

Kinkade has been a member of the Mike Cottrell College of Business’ AMA chapter since her sophomore year and currently serves as the chapter’s Vice President of Finance.

“I think my favorite thing about AMA is being able to help other students in the college of business become successful,” Kinkade said. “We are able to be a resource for each other, whether that be with helping in classes or writing a resume.”

Faculty advisor and instructor Mary Norman encouraged Kinkade to apply for the award. Kinkade received her award at the AMA Regional Conference on March 29.

Kinkade credits much of her professional growth during college to her involvement in AMA. She was able to get an internship with State Farm last year through connections made in the organization. She has enjoyed when guest speakers from various industries have come to speak during meetings. One of her favorite experiences was when the chapter visited the Coca-Cola headquarters in December 2016 and met with various company executives.

“If you are a student in the Mike Cottrell College of Business or are interested in becoming a better business person in the future, AMA is there to help,” Kinkade said. “It’s an organization for everyone interested in developing professionally, not only for marketing majors.”

Kinkade has enjoyed her time at UNG and hopes to work for a nonprofit organization after she graduates in December 2018.

“Joining organizations brings professional development opportunities to help students learn and grow,” Kinkade said. “Getting involved in the college of business in whatever ways possible will help you tremendously in the long run.”
