Internship Spotlight: Mansi Patel

Mansi Patel, a junior accounting major, is spending her semester as a staff accountant intern at Novogradac & Company LLP, a growing CPA firm.

Thanks to Beta Alpha Psi, Patel found out about this internship opportunity from another UNG alumnus at a networking event. She began her internship in January and will continue through the end of tax season. So far, she has been working 65 hour work weeks.

While the hours are long, she has already learned a great deal through her internship and looks forward to continue learning the skills she will need for her career after graduation. She hopes that this internship will help guide her future goals and what specialty, if any, she will choose in graduate school.

“Along with learning how to prepare tax returns and different types of audit reports for differently structured companies, particularly in the renewable energy industry, I have learned what it is like to work in a team environment and how to be a team player in the working world,” Patel said.

Since she is working full-time, she’s had to take a semester off from her coursework. She knows that choosing to delay her graduation for one semester was the best choice for her, as she is gaining invaluable real-world experience. This internship is something that Patel hopes will teach her how to better manage the work-life balance in the accounting field.

“This internship is truly proving to be a critical step in my career,” Patel said. “The experience during this internship will be the deciding factor for which specific field in accounting I should focus on in the future.”

Patel encourages others to look into getting an internship as soon as possible, as they help guide students towards the right professional path for them.

“I would encourage my peers to obtain an internship before graduation because an internship exposes you to real world situations and helps you learn whether or not you have made the correct decision regarding your career path early on in your professional life,” Patel said.
