InnovateUNG event brings excitement to entrepreneurship efforts

The University of North Georgia (UNG) will host the first annual InnovateUNG Pitch Challenge on February 20, 2019. InnovateUNG is a competition that will highlight the growth of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the university. Students that participate will have the opportunity to “pitch” their creative innovations in front of the entrepreneurial and financial experts.

UNG is excited to host experienced and successful entrepreneurs to judge the competition. announcements regarding judges will be made very soon.

The top two winners will be determined by the judges, while voting at a designated time during the competition by viewers attending the event and watching online will determine the People’s Choice award.

Dr. Ruben Boling, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, explained that the students participating “have worked hard to prepare for the competition and they are excited to introduce their innovations.” He hopes that the student body and community members will attend the final event in February to show support for participants.

The winner of the UNG contest will receive $2,000, while second place will earn $1,500, and the People’s Choice will collect $500.

In addition to cash prizes, the students will compete for a chance to represent UNG at the first annual statewide Georgia InVenture Prize competition. Sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the state contest will include participants from the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia. This competition is modeled off of the InVenture Prize at Georgia Tech which began in 2009. The Georgia InVenture Prize finals will be televised.

Students will compete individually or in teams up to five as a part of InnovateUNG. Training, education, and coaching has been available for students participating in the challenge. The winning team will receive coaching from the university ahead of the state competition.
