Free Online Tutoring for All UNG Students

There are two online tutoring services available to all UNG students — Smarthinking and UNG Tutoring Services. Both can be accessed from within eLearning@UNG (D2L).

Students will go to their course in eLearning@UNG (D2L) to request tutoring in that subject area.

On the D2L course homepage:

  1. Click the Free Online Tutoring link on the blue navigation bar.
  2. Click Connect to Smarthinking from the drop-down menu or
  3. click UNG Virtual Tutoring for UNG Tutoring Services.

Smarthinking provides free online tutoring in more than 150 subject areas. Many subject areas are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More advanced classes may require an appointment.

Students can “drop in” for live tutoring, schedule a tutoring appointment, submit questions or a written assignment and get a response typically within 24 hours. They can also create a study group with classmates and invite a tutor for assistance.

Smarthinking access is only available through eLearning@UNG (D2L). There is no access through the tutoring service’s website.

10 Hours of Free Tutoring

All UNG students start with 10 hours (600 minutes) of free Smarthinking tutoring. Students can contact UNG’s Online Student Success Advisors at UNGOnline@ung.edu to request additional time.

UNG Tutoring Services

Tutoring Services has offered online tutoring for all UNG students since the spring of 2020.

Teams Tutoring

Microsoft Teams, a communication platform (text, phone, video), is used for online tutoring sessions. Download the free Teams app (Apple, Android, Windows) or log in with the online version inside Microsoft 365 (UNG login credentials and Duo app required).

Writing assistance is available online through myWCOnline. UNG students can upload a document for review, join a live video session to discuss documents or talk through ideas. Students must create an account to use this service.
