DETI Tracks Students

Report Out-of-State Internships to DETI

UNG is an NC-SARA institution

DETI needs to know before UNG students leave Georgia to participate in internships (for degree credit), rotations, student teaching, etc.

This does not include other “internships” such as non-credit summer jobs, field trips, or placements in Georgia.

Because of Covid-19, some internships are completed online. DETI is not required to track those internships. We only track students that leave the state, even for a short period of time.

DETI tracks out-of-state placements that meet all of the following criteria:

  • The placement is outside of Georgia;
  • The placement involves the physical presence of the student at the out-of-state location(s), even for a short period of time;
  • The placement is an activity required for degree completion or professional licensure;
  • The placement is offered for credit and/or for a fee.

Note: DETI tracks student internships occuring in 49 states (Georgia is excluded), Washington DC, and US Territories. Foreign internships are not tracked.

Career Services Form

If a student is required to fill out a UNG Internship Learning Agreement form, available through UNG’s Career Services, please make a copy for DETI.

Follow the instructions on the form and attach a copy of the completed, signed form to DETI@ung.edu. Include the CIP Code that best describes the out-of-state placement (see the CIP Codes link below). DETI does not need the student’s personal information. You can block out names, 900 numbers, addresses, etc.

Location, date (ex. Summer 2021), and CIP Code number are needed.

Rule of 10 for Internships

The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) regulations allow up to ten students to participate at one time, at one location, in out-of-state learning placements. DETI uses UNG’s internship learning agreement forms (available from UNG’s Career Services) to keep track of students learning out of state.

Reporting Regulations

DETI will use the Internship Learning Agreement forms to file paperwork with NC-SARA, listing the number of students, the state or territory, and the subject (CIP code) of the learning placement. This information is updated in June for the previous calendar year.

If you have NOT submitted an Internship Learning Agreement to DETI for 2021 internships (summer or fall only) or have internships scheduled for the spring 2022 semester, please send a copy to deti@ung.edu.

For more information about state authorizations, contact DETI’s Steven Schretzmann.
