Media Player with a Transcript

Use the New Embed Kaltura Media Link

Create a media player with a transcript using the Embed Kaltura Media link from the Insert Stuff menu. This link replaced the My Media link from the same menu.

The transcript, located below the regular Kaltura media player, is automatically updated when edits are made to the media’s closed-captioning.

The Kaltura Media Transcript

Transcript has search box on left, download and printer icons in the middle, and the open and hide transcript button on the right.
The transcript sits below the standard media player.

The transcript section has these features:

  1. SEARCH: Type a keyword in the search box and hit return. Every instance of the word is highlighted in yellow. Scroll through the transcript and click on any word to jump to that section in the video.
  2. DOWNLOAD or PRINT: Download a copy of the transcript (click the download icon) or print the transcript (click the printer icon).
  3. OPEN/CLOSE: Click the Open/Hide transcript link to read the text or close the transcript box.

Note: The transcript does not have paragraph breaks. It is a txt file that can be downloaded, opened, and edited in Microsoft Word.

Why Use a Transcript?

An instructor can use a transcript to:

  • locate errors in the closed-captioning (Use the Kaltura closed-captioning editor. Captioning edits automatically update the transcript)
  • read the text to be sure there are no factual errors or missing information in the media

A student can use a transcript to:

  • increase comprehension and accessibility
  • search for a word for phrase in a media file
  • click a word in a transcript and jump to that section of the media
