Introducing REACH

How to correct closed-captioning errors with Kaltura’s REACH.

Kaltura, the video platform used in eLearning@UNG (D2L), updated their closed-captioning software last month. The new software is easier to use and appears to be more accurate than the old software.

CAUTION: Automatic captions are typically 80% accurate (sometimes much less). You WILL need to make corrections.

Please save your corrections frequently. The software occasionally freezes and all unsaved corrections will be lost.

Here’s a quick REACH v2.0 tutorial.

After a video has been uploaded to Kaltura, REACH V2.0 will create closed-captions timed to the video’s audio track. It can take 30 minutes (or much more for longer videos) to create automatic closed-captioning. When the captioning is complete, tags of keywords will appear under the headline, highlighted with ovals.

Click the video’s thumbnail image, headline or the pencil icon to access the editing options.
