About

Make Yourself Comfortable at UNG
We are the proud parents and families of students and cadets at the University of North Georgia, The Military College of Georgia. #HawkEm Nighthawks! If you are a new UNG-Dahlonega parent, welcome to the UNG Family!

The Parents & Family Association is an all-volunteer organization that connects family members of current students to campus news and events. Our goals are to help students succeed and to help parents of UNG-Dahlonega students find the info they need.

UNG studentCommunication and Information
To receive regular correspondence throughout your son or daughter’s time at North Georgia, your best bet is to join the PFA as an active (dues-paying) member. While all parents of UNG students are associate members of the PFA, we believe that parents who have taken the extra step toward “active” membership are interested in getting involved and are eager to find ways to support UNG students.

Be sure to add our email address (parents.association@ung.edu) to your contact list. Check your email for PFA News and invitations to events on campus. Occasionally, you may have a question that another experienced UNG parent can answer. For those instances, direct your questions to one of our Facebook groups, moderated by parent volunteers who are skilled in helping you find the answers through university resources and with the help of our staff liaison, Darcy Hayes, in the First Year Experience office.

PFA Awards Fund
Parent support reinforces UNG’s mission as a leadership institution and as one of only six Senior Military Colleges in the nation. Under the oversight of the UNG Foundation, the PFA Awards Fund exists as a financial resource for scholarships, University departments, student groups, club teams, military specialty groups, and other eligible student organizations.

The PFA Council reviews award requests from these groups and departments, and votes as a team on funding projects. You can get involved in our leadership by joining the PFA, voting for the leadership team members, running for a council slot, serving on a committee, or otherwise actively participating in PFA events and fundraisers. You can also show your support for our efforts by making a gift to the Awards Fund.

ung-athleticsVolunteer Opportunities
The Parents & Family Association Council, a group of 11 elected leaders, looks forward to working with you on our various committees. Opportunities for parent volunteers include staffing campus events, reviewing award requests, writing for our newsletters, creating fundraising ideas, welcoming the parents of freshmen students and incoming cadets, hosting events for students and families, and sharing experiences as a UNG parent in our Facebook groups. We provided exclusive live-streaming video during the 2016 Alumni Weekend events in our North Georgia Cadet Parents Facebook Group. Cadet Parents all across the country were ecstatic to be able to share in these moments in real time!

Activities and Events
Plan to attend some of the events and activities for parents on campus. Events include dinners for incoming students’ parents during New Student Orientations in summer, greeting parents at FROG Dropoff, hosting fun exploration trips in the North Georgia area during FROG Week, organizing gatherings on Family Day in fall and during Alumni Weekend in spring, among many other opportunities for getting involved.

In addition, parents are invited to participate in many Alumni Association groups and events. For example, we can help you be on the lookout for golf tournaments, luncheons in support of the Corps of Cadets, special services and events on Veterans Day and during Gold Rush, and attending various UNG sporting events.
