Brief History:
- Inaugural conference held in 2003 in response to a lack of literature and conference proceedings focused on transfer students. 300 individuals from over 30 institutions and 32 states were in attendance, attesting to the need for the multi-disciplinary gathering.
- Awarded first research grant at annual conference in 2006.
- Starting in 2008, a second national conference was added to address special issues and/or sub-populations.
- Expanded activities to include major service and research grants in 2009.
- Awarded the first Barbara K. Townsend Dissertation Award in 2010.
- Hosted two STEM transfer conferences and created permanent track at annual conference, 2011-2012.
- NISTS celebrated 10th Anniversary Annual Conference in January 2012.
- August 2012, NISTS relocated to North Georgia College and State University.
