Why You Should Join Enactus

Are you looking to join an organization on campus that strives to make a difference? Enactus is a great opportunity to get involved on and off campus! Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic, and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.

The word Enactus is actually a mashup of words that the organization stands by. Those three words are:
Entrepreneurial— having the perspective to see an opportunity and the talent to create value from that opportunity.
Action— the willingness to do something and the commitment to see it through even when the outcome is not guaranteed.
Us— a group of people who see themselves connected in some important way; individuals who are part of a greater whole.

Enactus is a multinational organization. It has 457 teams, 16,067 students, 909 projects, and 267,764 hours volunteered in the United States alone! Some of the opportunities the Enactus team at the University of North Georgia offers students are volunteering at local elementary schools, teaching budgeting, interviewing and financial literacy workshops for students, and participating in international community development projects.

Most recently, the UNG Enactus team received National Recognition at the Enactus USA National Exposition. The team won third place in the national Bright Future Project Accelerator competition and participated in the national competition by being named Regional Champion.

Ellie Cortez, the Marketing Director for Enactus, had this to say about her time in Enactus, “Enactus is a strong and compassionate organization. Since joining Enactus, I have met many great people and families who have benefited from the projects we create, and it truly gives my life meaning. I encourage anyone to join Enactus if they have a strong passion for entrepreneurship and using that to help other people.”

Enactus holds meetings on Mondays at noon on the Gainesville campus and Oconee campus. If you are on another campus, do not worry! Meetings can be telecasted so that you can be a part of the team no matter where you are. Visit UNGConnect or the UNG Enactus Facebook page for more info.
