Free Tax Preparation available through VITA at UNG

Accounting students within the University of North Georgia’s Mike Cottrell College of Business, and under the direction of Lisa Nash, Accounting Lecturer, are preparing tax returns for the Dahlonega community and students at the University of North Georgia.

Students are certified by testing through the IRS. The service is free to the community and part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less. The students prepare 1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 with schedules A, B, C-EZ, D, along with basic tax credits.  The returns are prepared while taxpayers are present and filed electronically with direct deposit available if desired

Tax preparation service is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 to 7 pm, beginning February 1 and ending March 8 in the Mike Cottrell College of Business, Room 109. The service is by appointment only.  For more information or an appointment call 706-867-3082.
